I was raised in a multi-cultural family and earned a Master’s degree in international business which led to an increasingly successful career. But I soon found that working 9 to 5, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year did not make me happy. I was missing a deeper connection, I felt a deep need to understand other people at a fundamental level. This need drew me into the study of psychology, sexuality, healing of trauma, tantra and ultimately BDSM and Shibari.
I have 15 years of professional experience in sexual relationships, with particular emphasis on sexuality as expressed through power exchange, also known as domination or BDSM. This has given me the understanding of how important it is to be accepted for who you are – no matter what kind of sexuality you have. Most of us have deep fear, guilt and shame talking or dealing with this topic. So we internalize the fear of being rejected and unloved and this repression begins to control often, unconsciously, many elements in our lives.
I realized early on how important it was to be able to let go of the fear, guilt and shame. But to do that, a person has to be learn how to surrender completely, while at the same time maintaining a sense of self and self control, holding a mental place of safety during the act of surrender. In my search to learn more about surrendering and control I started to learn and practice Shibari.
I started my practice of Shibari in 2010 under Master Yukinaga Max at the Copenhagen Shibari Dojo. After several years I moved to intensive private lessons from Lars Hærvig. Currently I am a student of Jan Scot at the Kinbaku Lounge, one of the world’s foremost rope community centers. Both Lars ans Jan were themselves students of Master Yukinaga Max, who is a a Deshi (disciple) of Osada Steve Sensei and a student of Grand Master Yugimuri Haruki.
In parallel with my study of Shibari, I also underwent intensive training in the Wing Chun school of kungfu. However, after 6 years of practice, I began to realize that martial arts training was affecting my nervous system in a negative way, allowing masculine energies to overly dominate my life. I understood that I needed to be more in contact with my feminine energy, and in order to accomplish that, I needed some deep self-development.
This led me to reverse my direction of study away from the martial arts and towards the meditative arts, learning yoga in Goa and Kerala, India – earning two yoga teacher certifications and studying trauma releasing breath work techniques in Thailand, and exploring tantra, Taoism and shamanism with ISTA (The International School of Temple Arts).
